Communism Tour
Not only is Prague famous for it’s medieval monuments, it was also the backdrop to the Cold War. Most visitors don’t know that the world’s biggest statue of Stalin once stood in Prague. We’ll have a chance to see its former position and discuss the day-to-day life under communist oppression. Next we’ll head to the church tower that served as secret communist police observation point, and on the way, find out about Václav Havel and other Czech dissidents. We’ll learn about the liberation period of Prague Spring, how the Soviets struck it down, and commemorate Jan Palach, a student who set himself on fire in a protest. We’ll find out what the Velvet Revolution was and we’ll see where it started. Finally, we’ll end up at a real nuclear bunker.
Highlights include:
- Stalin’s statue (former place)
- Nuclear bunker
- Jan Palach memorial
- Street where the revolution started
